Why Is Technip Energies Stock Climbing Today? UBS and Goldman Sachs Upgrades Lift Shares

Technip Energies (Euronext Paris: TE) shares climbed on October 14, 2026, after UBS upgraded the French energy engineering company to Buy from Neutral, following a similar move by Goldman Sachs a day earlier. UBS set a price target of €39, while Goldman Sachs raised its target to €35 from €32, pointing to improving visibility around major liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects.

Investing.com reported that Technip Energies shares rose around 1.3% to €30.72 during the session. The rally followed a period of weakness, with the stock having fallen more than 20% since late March, according to the analyst reports.

The main driver is a change in how analysts view the company’s future order pipeline. New LNG projects could create significant business opportunities as countries seek to diversify energy supplies and reduce exposure to disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. But the improving outlook must be weighed against near-term earnings pressure and geopolitical risks.

Why Did UBS and Goldman Sachs Upgrade Technip Energies?

UBS raised its rating to Buy from Neutral on October 14, setting a €39 target compared with its previous €41 target. The lower target reflects caution about near-term disruption, but the upgrade signals that UBS sees a more attractive risk-reward balance at the current share price. Goldman Sachs had upgraded the stock to Buy on October 13 and raised its target to €35.

The analysts’ central argument is that the market may be underestimating the amount of LNG-related work that Technip Energies could secure over the next several years.

Goldman Sachs identified five potential projects as important to the company’s growth prospects:

  • Commonwealth LNG Expansion in the United States

  • Abadi LNG in Indonesia

  • Bab Gas Cap in the United Arab Emirates

  • Fujairah LNG in the UAE

  • Coral FLNG 3, a floating LNG project

Goldman estimated that successful awards across these projects could add as much as €10.5 billion to Technip Energies’ backlog. These are potential awards, however—not contracts already secured by the company.

The distinction is important. Analyst upgrades can improve investor sentiment quickly, but the long-term business benefit depends on customers approving projects, financing being secured and contracts actually being awarded.

LNG Demand and Energy Security Are Driving the Bullish Case

LNG is natural gas cooled into liquid form so it can be transported by ship to markets without direct pipeline access. Large LNG projects require complex engineering, liquefaction technology, processing equipment and extensive construction work—all areas in which Technip Energies operates.

Geopolitical tensions have increased the importance of diversifying energy supplies. European and Asian buyers are seeking ways to reduce dependence on vulnerable transport routes and individual suppliers. That shift could encourage investment in LNG export facilities, import infrastructure and alternative energy supply chains.

Technip Energies could benefit if these priorities translate into final investment decisions and engineering contracts. Goldman Sachs expects potential project awards to improve backlog visibility, with revenue contributions potentially beginning from 2027 as projects move into execution.

However, LNG demand is not guaranteed to grow at the same pace everywhere. High gas prices, financing challenges, permitting delays and competition from renewable energy can delay or cancel projects. The commercial viability of each development remains crucial.

Technip Energies Has a Large Backlog—but Profitability Has Weakened

The company’s latest financial results show why investors are weighing its future growth opportunities against near-term risks.

Order intake—the value of new contracts booked during a period—rose sharply, helping the company build an adjusted backlog of approximately €25 billion. That is a substantial source of potential future revenue.

Yet revenue was essentially flat, and recurring EBITDA fell by about one-third. The company attributed pressure on its first-half performance partly to the Middle East situation and the recognition of provisions. It also reduced its 2026 Project Delivery margin guidance to above 5%, from the previous range of 6.5% to 7.5%.

This is the central tension in the stock’s outlook: Technip Energies has a strong order pipeline, but converting contracts into profitable revenue remains a challenge.

A large backlog does not guarantee strong earnings. Projects can face cost inflation, delays, supply-chain constraints and contractual disputes. Investors will need evidence that new awards can support growth without further deterioration in margins.

What Could the Stock Rally Mean for Investors?

The back-to-back analyst upgrades suggest that some market participants believe Technip Energies’ recent share-price weakness has created an attractive entry point relative to its longer-term opportunities.

Goldman Sachs also estimated that the shares were trading at around 10.5 times forward earnings, compared with approximately 13 times for peers at the time of its analysis. That valuation discount may appeal to investors who expect earnings to recover as new projects move forward.

Still, a lower valuation does not automatically mean a stock is undervalued. The discount could partly reflect genuine risks, including weaker margins, project execution uncertainty and exposure to geopolitical disruptions.

The UBS target of €39 and Goldman Sachs target of €35 are analyst estimates based on their respective assumptions. They are not guaranteed share prices, and the targets do not necessarily share the same timeframe or methodology.

Investors should avoid treating the upgrades alone as a reason to buy. The more useful question is whether upcoming results support the recovery in earnings that the bullish case requires.

What to Watch Next

Technip Energies is scheduled to release its financial results for the first nine months of 2026 on October 29, 2026, according to the company’s investor-relations calendar.

The report should provide a fresh opportunity to assess order intake, execution and the financial impact of ongoing projects. Investors should pay particular attention to:

  • Whether operating margins stabilise after the first-half decline.

  • Whether the company secures firm awards for the LNG projects identified by analysts.

  • Whether the €25 billion backlog converts into revenue on schedule.

  • Whether geopolitical conditions cause further delays or cost increases.

  • Whether management’s full-year guidance remains achievable.

The next results may help determine whether the recent analyst optimism is supported by improving business performance or remains primarily a bet on future contract awards.

Conclusion

Technip Energies shares climbed after UBS and Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock, highlighting the potential for new LNG projects to strengthen its future order book. Energy-supply diversification offers a credible long-term opportunity, but weaker first-half profitability and geopolitical uncertainty remain important risks.

For investors, the next milestone is whether the company can turn its substantial backlog and prospective LNG contracts into profitable growth. Its October 29 update should provide important clues.
