Gold Price Today: Latest Gold and Silver Rates Oct 7

Gold Price Today, October 7, 2026: Gold Falls as Silver Prices Also Slip; Check Latest Rates

Gold prices came under pressure on Wednesday, October 7, as a stronger US dollar and elevated Treasury yields reduced the appeal of the precious metal. Silver also weakened in international markets, while domestic Indian bullion rates moved lower.

For buyers tracking gold price today in India, the latest IBJA indicative rates show 24K fine gold at ₹14,798 per gram, or about ₹1,47,980 per 10 grams, on October 7. The 999-purity silver rate stood at ₹2,21,584 per kg. Both were lower than the previous day's indicative rates.

The move comes after a sharp run-up in precious metals, making the latest correction important for both jewellery buyers and investors.

Gold Price Today: Latest Rates in India

According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) indicative PM rates for October 7, 2026, gold prices were lower across major purity categories.

Gold/SilverOctober 7, 2026October 6, 2026Change
24K/999 Gold₹14,798/g₹14,847/g-₹49/g
22K Gold₹14,443/g₹14,491/g-₹48/g
20K Gold₹13,170/g₹13,214/g-₹44/g
18K Gold₹11,986/g₹12,026/g-₹40/g
14K Gold₹9,544/g₹9,577/g-₹33/g
Silver 999₹2,21,584/kg₹2,22,820/kg-₹1,236/kg

The IBJA rates are indicative bullion benchmarks. Retail jewellery prices can differ because of GST, making charges, local pricing and other costs.

What Is the Gold Rate at Major Jewellery Brands?

Retail jewellery prices were not moving uniformly across brands on October 7.

Tanishq's 22K gold jewellery price was reported at ₹13,755 per gram, down from ₹13,815 on October 6. In contrast, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers each quoted ₹13,710 per gram, compared with ₹13,660 a day earlier.

This difference highlights why consumers should not assume that the IBJA bullion rate is identical to the final price at a jewellery shop.

The final bill for jewellery can also include making charges and applicable taxes, meaning a small change in the underlying gold rate does not necessarily translate into an identical change in the amount a customer pays.

Why Are Gold Prices Falling?

The main pressure is coming from global markets.

Reuters reported that spot gold fell 1.6% to $4,096.13 per ounce, touching its lowest level since August 5. US gold futures for December delivery also declined 1.6%.

Two factors are particularly important.

Stronger US Dollar

The US dollar index rose 0.7%. Because gold is priced internationally in dollars, a stronger dollar can make gold relatively more expensive for buyers using other currencies and can weigh on demand.

Higher Treasury Yields and Interest-Rate Expectations

US Treasury yields have remained elevated, while markets continue to assess the Federal Reserve's next policy moves.

Gold does not generate interest income. Therefore, when bond yields rise, investors may find interest-bearing assets relatively more attractive compared with holding non-yielding gold.

Reuters reported that markets were pricing an 84% probability of a December Fed rate hike, according to the CME FedWatch tool, at the time of its report.

The upcoming Federal Reserve meeting minutes were also a key event for markets because they could provide additional clues about the central bank's thinking on inflation and interest rates.

Silver Prices: A Bigger Move Than Gold

Silver has also faced pressure, and its decline has been more pronounced in the international market.

Reuters reported that spot silver fell 2.9% to $59.89 per ounce on October 7.

In India, the IBJA indicative 999 silver rate declined by ₹1,236 per kg, from ₹2,22,820 to ₹2,21,584.

Silver has a different demand structure from gold because it is both an investment metal and an industrial commodity. Demand from electronics, solar technology and other industrial applications can therefore influence its longer-term price behaviour.

That also means silver can sometimes experience larger price swings than gold.

Is This a Buying Opportunity?

A one-day fall should not automatically be interpreted as either a buying opportunity or the beginning of a prolonged decline.

Gold has several competing forces at work. Higher yields and a stronger dollar are negative near-term factors, but central-bank demand and geopolitical uncertainty can provide support.

Reuters noted that China's central bank extended its gold-buying streak to 23 consecutive months in September. Official-sector demand remains an important structural support for the market.

For Indian consumers, the decision is also different depending on the purpose.

Someone purchasing jewellery for a wedding or festival may be more concerned with the required quantity and final retail price than short-term price movements. An investor, meanwhile, needs to consider portfolio allocation, volatility and the investment vehicle being used.

A short-term fall in the quoted rate does not guarantee that prices will continue declining.

What Could Move Gold Prices Next?

The immediate direction of gold could depend heavily on US monetary policy expectations.

Investors will be watching:

  • Federal Reserve meeting minutes

  • US inflation and employment data

  • Treasury yields

  • The US dollar

  • Geopolitical developments

  • Central-bank gold purchases

  • Global investment demand

  • Indian festive and wedding-season demand

The relationship between these factors is not always straightforward. For example, geopolitical tensions can support safe-haven demand for gold, while simultaneously pushing oil prices higher. Higher oil prices can increase inflation concerns and potentially delay interest-rate cuts, creating conflicting signals for precious metals.

That is why the next few trading sessions could remain volatile rather than following a simple one-directional trend.

Gold vs Silver: What Buyers Should Know

Gold and silver should not be treated as identical investments.

Gold is primarily viewed as a store of value, reserve asset and safe-haven investment. Silver has both monetary and industrial characteristics, making its price more sensitive to changes in industrial demand and economic expectations.

For jewellery buyers, purity is also important. 24K gold is generally the highest-purity form used for investment bullion, while 22K gold is commonly used for jewellery. The quoted price therefore needs to be matched with the purity of the product being purchased.

Most importantly, consumers should compare the final price, not just the headline per-gram rate.

Bottom Line

Gold prices slipped on October 7 as a stronger US dollar and high Treasury yields increased pressure on precious metals. The latest IBJA indicative rate put 24K fine gold at ₹14,798 per gram, while 999 silver stood at ₹2,21,584 per kg.

Internationally, gold touched a two-month low and silver also declined sharply, with markets waiting for further clues on US interest-rate policy.

For buyers, the latest decline may offer some relief compared with recent highs, but short-term movements remain difficult to predict. The key factors to watch now are the US dollar, Treasury yields, Federal Reserve signals, geopolitical developments and physical demand during India's festive season.
