SK Hynix Doji at ₩1,809,000: Low-ADX Chop and Live Levels
SK Hynix shares are trading around ₩1.809 million as a doji candle and weak trend strength point to a market caught between buyers and sellers. The setup is particularly important because the stock is sitting close to a technical resistance zone rather than breaking decisively in either direction.
The latest technical snapshot showed SK Hynix at ₩1,809,000, with the stock up about 1.86% at the time of the market data. The session range was roughly ₩1.749 million to ₩1.815 million.
On the 5-hour chart, the recent structure has been characterized by a doji near the ₩1.808–₩1.820 million area, while the Average Directional Index (ADX) was around 22.23 in the late-September technical reading. That combination suggests that momentum exists, but trend conviction remains limited.
For investors, the key issue is therefore not simply whether SK Hynix is rising or falling. It is whether the stock can finally break out of its current technical congestion with enough volume and momentum to establish a clearer direction.
What the Doji at ₩1.809 Million Means
A doji is a candlestick pattern in which the opening and closing prices are relatively close together. It generally indicates indecision: buyers pushed prices higher, sellers pushed back, and neither side secured clear control by the end of the period.
In SK Hynix's case, the doji appeared close to the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement around ₩1.818 million, an area that has acted as short-term resistance. The stock has also been trading around VWAP, another commonly watched measure of the average traded price.
That makes the candle more relevant than an isolated doji would be.
A doji in the middle of a strong breakout can have limited significance. A doji directly beneath resistance, combined with declining volume and moderate ADX, provides stronger evidence that the market is waiting for a catalyst.
Low ADX Points to Choppy Trading
The ADX, or Average Directional Index, measures trend strength rather than whether prices are moving up or down.
The recent 5-hour reading of about 22.23 is not extremely low, but it is well below the kind of readings associated with a powerful trend. Investing.com's technical analysis described the setup as vulnerable to continued choppy trading as momentum and volume weakened.
This distinction matters.
When ADX is weak or only moderately elevated, a price breakout can fail quickly. Traders may see a move above resistance, enter on the apparent breakout and then face a reversal if volume does not confirm the move.
For SK Hynix, the next decisive candle could therefore be more important than the current doji itself.
₩1.818–₩1.820 Million Is the First Major Test
The immediate resistance zone is around ₩1.818 million to ₩1.820 million, where the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement and VWAP have converged in the recent 5-hour setup.
A sustained move above this area would improve the short-term technical picture, particularly if accompanied by stronger volume.
The next major resistance is considerably higher.
The 200-period moving average on the 5-hour chart was around ₩1.935 million to ₩1.958 million in the late-September technical readings, creating a much heavier overhead barrier.
That means a breakout above ₩1.82 million would not automatically complete the technical recovery. The stock would still face a major test around the ₩1.935–₩1.958 million region.
Key Support Levels
The other side of the setup is support.
The recent technical analysis placed short-term support around the ₩1.771–₩1.775 million area, where the SuperTrend and other technical measures were positioned. A more important support level was the 50-period moving average near ₩1.744 million.
The levels can be viewed broadly as follows:
₩1.818–₩1.820 million: Immediate resistance
₩1.835–₩1.840 million: Additional breakout confirmation area around the Ichimoku cloud
₩1.935 million: Major swing/resistance area
₩1.958 million: 200-period moving-average region
₩1.771–₩1.775 million: Near-term support
₩1.744 million: Important 50-period moving-average support
₩1.695 million: Deeper technical risk level cited in the recent setup

AI Memory Demand Remains the Fundamental Backdrop
The technical consolidation is taking place against a strong fundamental story for SK Hynix.
The company reported record second-quarter 2026 revenue of ₩79.32 trillion and operating profit of ₩60.54 trillion, with operating margin reaching 76%. SK hynix said the results were driven by strong demand for high-performance memory used in AI infrastructure.
The company also said its HBM4 products had achieved customer-required operating speeds, power efficiency and cost competitiveness. HBM, or high-bandwidth memory, is particularly important because it is used alongside advanced processors in AI data centers.
SK Hynix has therefore benefited from the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure spending.
That fundamental backdrop helps explain why technical weakness should not automatically be interpreted as a deterioration in the company's underlying business.
Micron Adds Another Semiconductor Catalyst
The broader memory-chip market has received another significant signal from Micron Technology.
Micron's latest results and guidance pointed to exceptionally strong AI-related memory demand. The company said its long-term supply commitments had increased to $32 billion, up from $22 billion in June, while it expects tight supply-demand conditions to continue into fiscal 2027 and 2028.
The news helped lift Asian technology shares on October 1, with Reuters reporting gains in major technology-heavy markets including South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
For SK Hynix, this is an important fundamental catalyst because the company is one of the world's major memory-chip suppliers and has significant exposure to AI memory demand.
However, strong industry fundamentals do not eliminate short-term technical risk.
Why Investors Should Watch Volume
Price alone may not provide enough confirmation in the current setup.
The recent technical analysis pointed to fading volume around the ₩1.8 million region. That matters because a breakout supported by substantially higher trading activity is generally more convincing than a move occurring on weak participation.
If SK Hynix moves above ₩1.82 million but volume remains weak, investors may need to watch for a failed breakout.
Conversely, a decisive move through resistance accompanied by expanding volume and stronger trend readings would provide evidence that the current consolidation is resolving.
What Could Move SK Hynix Next?
Several factors could influence the stock over the coming sessions and weeks.
AI memory demand: Continued spending on AI data centers remains the central fundamental driver.
HBM competition: SK Hynix's ability to maintain its position in high-bandwidth memory remains important as Samsung Electronics and Micron expand their own AI-memory businesses.
Memory pricing: DRAM and HBM pricing can have a major impact on semiconductor profitability.
Global technology sentiment: SK Hynix remains highly sensitive to movements in U.S. and Asian semiconductor stocks.
Bond yields and macroeconomic conditions: Rising global borrowing costs can pressure high-growth technology valuations even when corporate fundamentals remain strong.
SK Hynix Technical Outlook
The current SK Hynix setup is best described as a technically undecided market sitting on top of a strong fundamental AI-memory story.
At around ₩1.809 million, the stock is close to the ₩1.818–₩1.820 million resistance area, while the recent doji signals hesitation. An ADX near 22 also suggests that the market does not yet have exceptionally strong directional momentum.
The immediate technical question is whether buyers can push the stock decisively through resistance. Above that zone, the ₩1.935 million region becomes an important longer-term technical test. On the downside, the ₩1.77 million area and then roughly ₩1.744 million are important levels to monitor.
The broader fundamental picture remains tied to AI infrastructure, HBM demand and memory pricing, with SK Hynix's record second-quarter results providing substantial evidence of the strength in its current business environment.
For investors, the key takeaway is that the doji does not establish a reversal by itself. The next move should be judged alongside volume, ADX, semiconductor-sector sentiment and the stock's ability to hold or break the major technical levels.
