Fasset Plans to Become a Bank for AI Agents and People

Fasset Wants to Become a Bank for People and Their AI Agents

Stablecoin-powered financial platform Fasset is aiming to become a bank within three years, but its vision goes beyond traditional digital banking. The company wants to build financial infrastructure that can serve both people and the artificial intelligence agents acting on their behalf.

Fasset CEO and co-founder Mohammad Raafi Hossain described the ambition in a recent interview, saying the company wants to become a bank “but not the kind you're picturing.” Its longer-term goal is to operate more like a financial operating system connecting people, businesses, assets, currencies and payment networks. (Investing.com)

The strategy comes after a major funding round that valued Fasset at $1 billion. In August, the company raised $68 million in Series C funding led by Japan's SBI Group, taking its total funding raised during 2026 to $119 million at that point. (Fasset)

For the financial industry, Fasset's plan highlights a potentially important intersection between stablecoins, cross-border payments and AI agents.

Fasset's Banking Ambition Goes Beyond Payments

Fasset already describes itself as a stablecoin-powered neobanking platform rather than simply a cryptocurrency exchange or payments company.

Its platform allows customers to access multiple financial functions, including holding and moving money, spending, investing and accessing different assets. Behind those consumer-facing products is Own Network, Fasset's financial infrastructure connecting banks, payment providers, liquidity providers and other financial institutions across international markets. (Fasset)

Hossain's three-year vision adds another layer.

The company wants its financial system to work not only when a person directly initiates a transaction, but also when an AI agent makes decisions or executes financial instructions on that person's behalf. (Investing.com)

That could eventually mean an AI assistant managing payments, moving money between currencies, paying suppliers or allocating funds according to rules set by its owner.

The concept remains an emerging use case rather than a mainstream banking product, but Fasset is investing specifically in the infrastructure needed to make such transactions possible.

Why AI Agents Could Change Financial Services

Today's banking systems are primarily designed around human customers.

A person logs into an account, authenticates themselves, chooses a beneficiary, enters an amount and confirms a transaction. Businesses similarly rely on employees and financial systems to initiate payments.

AI agents could change that workflow.

An agent could potentially monitor a company's cash position, identify a payment that needs to be made, select an appropriate currency or payment rail and execute the transaction under predefined limits.

For consumers, an AI assistant could eventually handle recurring payments, international transfers or other financial tasks without requiring the user to manually navigate multiple banking applications.

That creates a new infrastructure problem: how does a financial institution know that an AI agent is authorized to act for a particular person or company?

Fasset's answer is to build an intelligence layer around its existing payment and settlement infrastructure. Its Fasset Intelligence Labs is researching agent identity, autonomous money movement and agent-to-agent settlement. (Fasset Intelligence Labs)

Stablecoins Are Central to the Strategy

Stablecoins are important to Fasset because they can provide a digital settlement layer between different financial systems.

Unlike highly volatile cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, stablecoins are designed to maintain a relatively stable value, typically by referencing a fiat currency such as the U.S. dollar.

For cross-border transactions, that can potentially make settlement faster and more programmable.

Fasset's partnership with SBI Remit, announced in June, illustrates the company's approach. The companies are working on stablecoin-powered infrastructure for international money movement, including remittances, SME payments and treasury operations. Fasset said its Own Network at the time spanned more than 50 banking corridors across 16 blockchain networks. (Fasset)

The partnership also highlighted potential AI-driven use cases. An AI assistant could theoretically help a worker send money home, convert currencies or allocate part of their funds to other assets.

That is where Fasset's stablecoin infrastructure and AI strategy begin to overlap.

Fasset Has Already Reached Unicorn Status

Fasset's ambitions are backed by substantial recent fundraising.

In August, SBI Group led a $68 million Series C that valued the company at $1 billion, giving Fasset unicorn status. The funding followed a $51 million Series B announced earlier in 2026. (Fasset)

Fasset said the latest capital would be used to expand Own Network and increase investment in AI-enabled systems covering corridor banking, stablecoin settlement and tokenized assets. (Fasset)

The company also reported more than $40 billion in annualized transaction volume, over 3 million wallets and more than 1,000 enterprises across 125 countries as of its August funding announcement. (Fasset)

Those figures indicate that Fasset already has meaningful activity to build upon.

However, transaction volume should not be confused with revenue or profit. The economics of a payments business depend on fees, margins, customer retention, infrastructure costs and compliance expenses.

Own Network Is the Core Infrastructure

The most important part of Fasset's strategy may not be its consumer application.

Own Network is designed as the underlying infrastructure connecting local banking systems, payment providers, financial institutions, liquidity providers and settlement networks.

The company says the network covers more than 100 banking corridors and is intended to allow value to move across currencies and financial rails. Stablecoins can be used within the system as settlement infrastructure where appropriate. (Fasset)

That model resembles an infrastructure business more than a conventional bank.

Instead of simply providing customers with accounts, Fasset is attempting to connect multiple financial systems so that money can move between them more efficiently.

If AI agents eventually become major participants in financial markets, that infrastructure could become more valuable because agents will need reliable rails through which to move money.

The AI-Agent Opportunity Is Still Unproven

The long-term opportunity is potentially large, but there are significant uncertainties.

AI agents are still developing. Giving software autonomous control over money introduces questions around identity, authorization, fraud prevention, transaction limits and liability.

Fasset's Intelligence Labs is already researching these issues. Its work includes an agent identity framework designed around the idea that traditional Know Your Customer (KYC) systems assume a human is directly operating an account. An autonomous agent creates a different trust problem. (Fasset Intelligence Labs)

For example, if an AI agent makes an unauthorized payment, a financial system needs to determine whether the transaction was fraudulent, whether the agent exceeded its mandate or whether the user's instructions were misunderstood.

Solving those problems will be essential before autonomous financial agents can operate at large scale.

Cross-Border Payments Could Be the Nearer-Term Opportunity

While AI agents represent Fasset's longer-term vision, cross-border payments may offer a more immediate commercial opportunity.

International transfers can involve multiple intermediaries, currency conversions and settlement systems. Stablecoins can potentially reduce some of those frictions.

Fasset's SBI Remit partnership gives it access to a company that has processed more than ¥2.5 trillion in cumulative transaction volume and has a cash payout network spanning more than 200 countries and territories through partners, according to Fasset's announcement. (Fasset)

The combination could help Fasset expand its infrastructure across remittances and business payments while it continues developing its AI capabilities.

Fasset also signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea's NEXUS in September to explore payment infrastructure integration and stablecoin settlement, including potential AED- and KRW-linked stablecoin infrastructure. (Fasset)

Key Risks for Fasset's Strategy

The company's strategy faces several challenges.

Regulation: Banking, payments and stablecoins are heavily regulated. Fasset operates through regulated entities and partnerships, but expanding across jurisdictions can create complex licensing and compliance requirements.

Stablecoin risk: The usefulness of stablecoin infrastructure depends on liquidity, regulatory acceptance and confidence in the underlying stablecoins.

AI security: Giving agents financial authority creates new cybersecurity and fraud risks.

Competition: Banks, payment networks, fintech companies and blockchain firms are all developing stablecoin-based payment products.

Execution: Building a global financial network is significantly more difficult than launching a consumer application. Fasset must demonstrate that its infrastructure can operate reliably at scale while generating sustainable economics.

What Investors and the Industry Should Watch

Fasset is private, so there is no publicly traded Fasset share price for investors to track. The more relevant indicators are operational.

The next areas to watch include growth in transaction volume, enterprise customers, active wallets and banking corridors. The adoption of stablecoin settlement in real-world payments will also be important.

Another key indicator will be whether AI agents move beyond experiments into genuine financial activity.

If businesses begin using autonomous agents for treasury management, supplier payments and cross-border settlements, Fasset's infrastructure strategy could become considerably more relevant.

The company's ability to maintain regulatory compliance while expanding across emerging markets will be equally important.

Conclusion

Fasset is positioning itself as something larger than a stablecoin payments company. Its CEO says the company aims to become a bank within three years, while building infrastructure capable of serving both humans and the AI agents acting on their behalf. (Investing.com)

The strategy rests on three connected trends: stablecoin adoption, cross-border financial infrastructure and agentic AI. Fasset already has substantial reported transaction volume and has attracted major backing from Japan's SBI Group, but the most ambitious part of its vision—AI agents independently moving money—remains an emerging market rather than an established business model.

For the industry, the key question is whether AI agents become genuine economic participants. If they do, companies building the identity, compliance and settlement infrastructure behind those transactions could become an important new layer of global finance.
