Why Is Chime Financial Stock Gaining Today? Deutsche Bank Upgrade Puts CHYM in Focus
Chime Financial (NASDAQ: CHYM) is gaining attention on October 8 after Deutsche Bank upgraded the fintech stock from Hold to Buy and raised its price target from $30 to $35. The move comes as investors increasingly focus on Chime's newer products, particularly MyPay and Chime Prime, as potential drivers of faster growth and improving profitability.
Chime shares closed at $27.93 on October 7, up 1.01%, while premarket trading on October 8 showed the stock around $28.15–$28.24. The positive move is notable because broader U.S. markets were under pressure from rising Treasury yields and higher oil prices.
Why Is Chime Financial Stock Rising Today?
The immediate catalyst is Deutsche Bank's bullish upgrade.
The bank raised its rating on Chime from Hold to Buy and increased its price target from $30 to $35. Deutsche Bank's analyst cited extending momentum in MyPay and Chime Prime, arguing that these products could expand Chime's addressable market, accelerate customer acquisition and attract higher-income customers.
The $35 target represents roughly 25% upside from Chime's October 7 closing price of $27.93.
More importantly, the upgrade is not based simply on a valuation argument. Deutsche Bank expects Chime's newer products to create a structurally stronger growth profile and has reportedly increased its FY2027 adjusted EBITDA estimate by about $71 million.
That combination of higher growth expectations and improved earnings potential is helping explain why CHYM is holding up even as the broader market faces pressure.
MyPay Is Becoming an Important Growth Engine
One of the biggest parts of the Chime story is MyPay, its earned-wage-access product.
MyPay allows eligible customers to access part of their pay before their normal payday. Chime says eligible members can generally access between $20 and $500 per pay period, with funds available within 24 hours for free or instantly for a fee.
The product has become significant enough to attract attention from analysts.
According to the company's second-quarter disclosures, MyPay origination volume reached $4.5 billion in Q2 2026, while transaction profit dollars more than tripled year over year.
For investors, the important point is that MyPay does more than add another feature to the Chime app. It creates another recurring financial relationship with existing customers and potentially gives Chime more opportunities to generate revenue from its member base.
Chime Prime Adds Another Layer to the Growth Story
Deutsche Bank also highlighted Chime Prime, Chime's premium membership product.
Chime launched Prime in April 2026. The product is aimed at customers with at least $3,000 in qualifying monthly direct deposits and includes benefits such as cash back, a 3.75% high-yield savings rate and increased liquidity through products including MyPay and Instant Loans.
The significance for investors is customer quality and monetization.
Chime has said Prime members generate more than twice the average revenue per active member, while early results showed stronger direct-deposit intent and improved retention among existing direct depositors.
That gives the company a potential path to increase revenue without relying solely on adding large numbers of new users.
Strong Second-Quarter Results Support the Upgrade
The analyst upgrade also comes after a strong second quarter.
Chime reported 27% year-over-year revenue growth in Q2 2026 and recorded its second consecutive quarter of GAAP profitability.
The company subsequently raised its full-year 2026 outlook.
Chime expects full-year revenue of $2.725 billion to $2.745 billion, representing 25% to 26% year-over-year growth. It also expects adjusted EBITDA of $465 million to $475 million, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of about 17%.
For the third quarter, Chime expects revenue of $680 million to $690 million and adjusted EBITDA of $105 million to $110 million.
That guidance gives investors something more tangible behind the bullish analyst view: Chime is not merely promising future growth; management has already demonstrated improving profitability while continuing to expand its product portfolio.
Chime Is Expanding Beyond Its Core Banking Products
Another reason investors are paying attention is the company's broader product expansion.
Chime launched Chime Invest, adding commission-free investing and professionally managed portfolios to its app. The strategy is designed to keep more financial activity within the Chime ecosystem, allowing customers to use the platform for spending, saving, borrowing, credit-building and investing.
Chime has also been expanding products such as Instant Loans, savings and credit-building services.
The strategy is important because a larger product ecosystem can increase customer engagement and potentially raise revenue per active member over time.
The Broader Market Is Not Helping Much
Today's CHYM move is particularly interesting because the overall market backdrop is relatively difficult.
U.S. stocks are facing pressure from sharply higher oil prices and Treasury yields. Brent crude moved above $100 a barrel amid geopolitical concerns, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was around 5.3%. Higher yields can put pressure on growth-oriented stocks because investors often demand stronger earnings to justify higher valuations.
That makes Chime's company-specific catalyst more important.
The stock's relative strength suggests that investors are responding primarily to the Deutsche Bank upgrade and the improving fundamentals around Chime's newer products rather than simply following the broader market.
What Investors Should Watch Next
The key question now is whether Chime can convert the strong early performance of MyPay and Prime into sustained revenue and earnings growth.
Investors should watch several areas:
MyPay adoption and transaction volumes
Prime membership growth and customer retention
Revenue per active member
GAAP profitability
Adjusted EBITDA margins
Instant Loans growth
Chime's ability to attract higher-income customers
Whether management maintains its 2026 guidance
There are also risks. Chime remains exposed to consumer credit conditions, competition in digital banking and fintech, regulatory changes and valuation sensitivity. A strong analyst upgrade can lift a stock quickly, but the longer-term share-price performance will ultimately depend on whether operating results justify higher expectations.
Chime Financial Stock Outlook
The immediate reason Chime Financial stock is gaining today is clear: Deutsche Bank upgraded CHYM to Buy and raised its price target to $35, pointing to stronger-than-expected potential from MyPay and Chime Prime.
But the bigger investment question is whether these products can change Chime's earnings trajectory over several quarters. The company's 27% Q2 revenue growth, consecutive GAAP profitability and raised 2026 guidance provide fundamental support for the bullish case.
For investors watching CHYM, the next major signal will be whether customer growth, product adoption and profitability continue improving when the company reports its next results.
