Bitcoin Weekly Outlook: Fed Bets Ease, Uptober Hopes Rise

Bitcoin Slightly Up for the Week as Fed Hike Bets Ease and ‘Uptober’ Hopes Return

Bitcoin ended the week slightly higher as investors scaled back expectations for another Federal Reserve interest-rate hike in October, while optimism around the historically stronger October trading period added to the bullish mood.

Bitcoin was last reported at around $84,501.60, down 0.1% on the day but still up roughly 0.5% for the week. The modest weekly gain came after a much stronger third quarter, when Bitcoin surged about 43%. (Yahoo Finance)

The market's attention is now shifting toward whether easier expectations for U.S. monetary policy can help Bitcoin extend its recent recovery, or whether high Treasury yields, inflation concerns and uneven institutional flows will limit the rally.

Why Bitcoin Stayed Higher Despite Friday's Pullback

The biggest macroeconomic catalyst was the latest U.S. employment report.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the American economy added only 29,000 nonfarm jobs in September, while the unemployment rate was 4.2%. The jobs increase was considerably weaker than economists had expected. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)

A weaker labor market can reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to keep tightening monetary policy. Markets consequently reduced expectations for an October rate increase.

Reuters reported that the Fed was increasingly expected to pause at its October 27–28 meeting after the weaker jobs data, although a December increase remained possible if inflation data stayed problematic. (Reuters)

For Bitcoin, this matters because interest rates influence the availability and cost of capital across global financial markets.

When investors expect tighter monetary policy, liquidity-sensitive assets can come under pressure. When expectations shift toward a pause, risk appetite can improve.

That does not mean a weaker jobs report automatically makes Bitcoin bullish. A sharp deterioration in economic conditions could eventually create its own risks. For now, however, the market interpreted the employment slowdown mainly through the lens of reduced near-term Fed tightening.

Treasury Yields Are Still a Problem

The positive impact from softer Fed expectations was partly offset by renewed weakness in the U.S. Treasury market.

Bitcoin turned lower on Friday as Treasury yields rose again, showing that investors were not completely convinced that monetary policy would become substantially easier. The 10-year Treasury yield had fallen sharply immediately after the employment report before bond-market pressure returned. (Investing.com India)

This is an important distinction for Bitcoin investors.

A reduction in the probability of an October rate hike is supportive, but Bitcoin still operates within a broader financial environment where long-term borrowing costs remain elevated.

If Treasury yields remain high, the positive effect of a potential Fed pause could be limited.

The market therefore needs more than one favorable economic number to establish a sustained crypto rally.

‘Uptober’ Optimism Returns

Bitcoin also entered October with a familiar piece of crypto-market optimism: “Uptober.”

The term refers to Bitcoin's reputation for performing strongly during October in a number of previous market cycles. Traders often use the seasonal pattern as a sentiment indicator.

But historical seasonality should not be confused with a forecast.

Bitcoin's October performance can still be overwhelmed by Federal Reserve policy, inflation, geopolitical developments, ETF flows, Treasury yields or a sudden deterioration in risk appetite.

This year, the argument for an October rally has some additional support because Bitcoin entered the month after a roughly 43% third-quarter gain. The cryptocurrency's recent momentum has encouraged investors to look for a continuation rather than another prolonged downturn. (Yahoo Finance)

Still, a strong September or third quarter does not guarantee that October will deliver another major advance.

Bitcoin's Institutional Story Is Also Improving

Macro conditions are not the only positive development for Bitcoin.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on October 1 proposed new rules designed to create a more tailored framework for crypto custody by registered investment advisers and regulated funds. The proposal could allow self-custody under specified conditions and expand the use of state trust companies for crypto custody. (SEC)

That development could be important for institutional Bitcoin adoption.

Large asset managers need reliable systems for safeguarding assets, maintaining records, meeting compliance requirements and protecting clients. Uncertainty around crypto custody has historically been one of the practical barriers to broader institutional participation.

The SEC's proposal does not guarantee new institutional buying, and it is not yet a final rule. The agency has opened a 60-day public comment period following publication in the Federal Register. (SEC)

Nevertheless, the proposal adds to the perception that U.S. regulators are moving toward a more defined framework for digital assets.

What Could Drive Bitcoin Next?

The next phase of the Bitcoin price outlook will probably depend on the interaction between monetary policy, liquidity and institutional demand.

Federal Reserve expectations

The October 27–28 Fed meeting will remain a major market event. Investors will examine inflation and labor-market data released before the meeting for clues about whether policymakers can afford to remain on hold. (Reuters)

Treasury yields

Bitcoin can struggle when bond yields rise sharply because higher yields can strengthen the appeal of traditional fixed-income assets and tighten broader financial conditions.

ETF and institutional flows

Continued demand from spot Bitcoin investment products would provide a stronger fundamental signal than seasonal optimism alone.

Regulatory developments

The SEC's crypto custody proposal is worth monitoring because a final framework could influence how investment advisers and regulated funds handle digital assets.

Price momentum

Bitcoin's recent move back toward the $85,000–$87,000 area is likely to remain an important short-term reference for traders. The cryptocurrency briefly moved above $87,000 after the weak jobs report before giving back part of the move. (TradingView)

A sustained move above recent highs would strengthen the argument that buyers are regaining control. Failure to hold the latest gains would instead suggest that macroeconomic pressure remains significant.

What It Means for Indian Investors

For Indian investors, Bitcoin's weekly gain is best viewed as part of a global macro and institutional-market story.

U.S. interest-rate expectations influence global liquidity, the dollar and risk appetite, all of which can affect Bitcoin prices in dollar terms. Indian investors also face the additional impact of currency movements because Bitcoin is generally quoted globally in U.S. dollars.

The latest rally should therefore not be interpreted simply as evidence that Bitcoin is entering a guaranteed upward trend.

Investors should watch global monetary policy, U.S. bond yields, institutional flows and regulatory developments alongside the price itself.

The SEC's custody proposal is potentially positive for Bitcoin's long-term institutional profile, but regulatory proposals can change during the consultation process and do not remove the cryptocurrency's underlying volatility.

Conclusion

Bitcoin finished the week slightly higher, supported by reduced expectations for an October Federal Reserve rate hike and renewed optimism around the seasonal “Uptober” narrative. A weak September jobs report helped shift the immediate policy outlook, while the SEC's proposed crypto-custody framework added a longer-term institutional catalyst. (Yahoo Finance)

The key question now is whether these positives can overcome elevated Treasury yields and keep Bitcoin above its recent trading range. For investors, the most important signals to watch are Fed expectations, U.S. inflation data, bond yields, institutional flows and Bitcoin's ability to sustain its recent gains.
