The SS Retail IPO is open for subscription from September 16 to September 18, 2026, giving investors an opportunity to participate in the public issue of the multi-brand mobile and electronics retailer. What Does SS Retail Do?

SS Retail operates a multi-brand retail business focused primarily on mobile phones, pre-owned smartphones, accessories and electronic products.

The company operates brands including The Mobile Store and Mobile Exchange Wala, while it has also acquired the GIZMORE brand and holds a controlling stake in Olineo. Its expansion has taken the business beyond its original Maharashtra base into several other Indian states.

The company said it crossed 500 stores under operations in 2026, highlighting the rapid expansion of its retail footprint. Its earlier expansion included entering Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh and opening more than 110 stores during FY2025, bringing the store count to 347 as of March 31, 2025.

For investors, the key attraction is therefore not just the mobile-phone retail market itself, but SS Retail's attempt to build a larger organised retail network across India's electronics and smartphone categories.

SS Retail IPO Financial Performance

The company's recent financial performance shows strong top-line growth.

According to IPO data, SS Retail reported revenue of approximately ₹2,352.85 crore in FY2026, compared with ₹1,599.96 crore in FY2025. Profit increased to around ₹59.28 crore from ₹39.86 crore over the same period.

That represents substantial year-on-year growth in both revenue and profit.

However, investors should look beyond the headline growth numbers. Retail businesses can require significant working capital because companies need to maintain inventory across stores while managing supplier payments, customer demand and product price changes.

The IPO documents therefore deserve particular attention for working-capital requirements, cash flows, inventory turnover and the company's ability to generate profits as its store network expands.

How Will SS Retail Use IPO Funds?

The fresh issue is expected to raise around ₹360 crore, while approximately ₹140 crore is being offered by selling shareholders through the OFS component.

The company has identified three broad uses for the fresh capital:

  • Funding capital expenditure for store fit-outs in FY2027 and FY2028

  • Part-funding incremental working-capital requirements

  • General corporate purposes

This makes the IPO different from an issue that is primarily an exit opportunity for existing shareholders. A substantial portion of the proceeds will go directly to SS Retail through the fresh issue and can therefore support its expansion plans.

SS Retail IPO GMP: What Does the Grey Market Indicate?

Grey-market premium, or GMP, is an unofficial market indicator that reflects what some investors are willing to pay for IPO shares before their official listing.

Recent market data showed SS Retail's GMP around ₹105 per share, equivalent to roughly 24.8% of the upper IPO price of ₹424. That would imply an indicative grey-market price of about ₹529.

However, GMP should be treated cautiously.

It is not an official exchange price, does not represent the company's intrinsic value and does not guarantee the eventual listing price. GMP can also change substantially before the IPO closes.

For that reason, investors should not judge SS Retail solely on the basis of its current grey-market premium.

SS Retail IPO Subscription Status

The first day of bidding provided an early indication of investor interest.

At the end of September 16:

  • Overall subscription: 1.44 times

  • Retail investors: 2.20 times

  • Non-institutional investors: 1.53 times

  • QIBs excluding anchors: 0.20 times

  • Employee category: 0.32 times

The figures are only for the first day and can change significantly on the final day of bidding.

The anchor round also attracted institutional participation. SS Retail raised about ₹146 crore from anchor investors, with 34.52 lakh shares allotted at ₹424 per share. ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund and Kotak Mutual Fund were among the notable anchor participants.

Anchor participation can provide useful information about institutional interest, but it should not be interpreted as a guarantee of post-listing performance.

SS Retail IPO: Potential Strengths

One of the key strengths is the company's rapid expansion.

India's smartphone and electronics retail market provides a large addressable market, while organised retail can potentially benefit from consumers seeking financing options, product variety, after-sales support and exchange programmes.

SS Retail has also expanded its business through acquisitions and new brands. Its acquisition of GIZMORE provides exposure to consumer electronics and accessories, while its stake in Olineo adds another business relationship to the company's ecosystem.

The strong growth in FY2026 revenue and profit is another factor investors may examine when evaluating the IPO.

Risks Investors Should Consider

Rapid store expansion can create its own challenges.

SS Retail needs to spend capital on new outlets, maintain inventory and generate sufficient sales from newly opened stores. If new stores take longer than expected to reach profitability, returns on expansion capital could be affected.

The company also operates in a highly competitive market. Large organised retailers, e-commerce platforms, brand-owned stores and local mobile retailers compete for the same customers.

Other factors worth monitoring include:

  • Inventory and working-capital requirements

  • Store-level profitability

  • Competition from online retailers

  • Smartphone price and product cycles

  • Dependence on consumer spending

  • Execution of the store expansion strategy

  • Debt and financing costs

  • Cash-flow generation

A high revenue-growth rate therefore needs to be supported by sustainable margins and cash generation over time.

SS Retail IPO Allotment Date and Listing

For investors who apply to the issue, the basis of allotment is scheduled for September 21.

Refunds for unsuccessful applicants are expected to begin on September 22, while shares allotted to successful applicants are expected to be credited to their demat accounts on the same day. The proposed listing date is September 23, 2026, on both NSE and BSE.

Investors can check their allotment status through the registrar, KFin Technologies, or through the relevant exchange after the basis of allotment is finalised.

Because the issue is currently open, final subscription numbers and the actual allotment ratio will depend on demand received by the closing date.

Should Investors Consider the SS Retail IPO?

The SS Retail IPO presents a combination of strong recent financial growth, aggressive retail expansion and exposure to India's large smartphone and electronics market.

At the same time, investors should assess whether the company's growth can continue without putting excessive pressure on working capital and cash flows.

The GMP of around ₹105 indicates positive unofficial sentiment, but it should not replace fundamental analysis. Similarly, first-day subscription numbers show demand but do not determine the company's long-term value.

For short-term IPO participants, subscription levels, GMP and broader market sentiment may be relevant. For long-term investors, the more important indicators will be store productivity, revenue growth, margins, cash flow, inventory management and returns generated from the company's expansion spending.

Bottom Line

The SS Retail IPO runs from September 16 to September 18, 2026, with a price band of ₹403–₹424 and a minimum retail investment of ₹14,840 for one 35-share lot. The allotment is scheduled for September 21 and the proposed listing date is September 23.

The company enters the market after strong FY2026 revenue and profit growth and plans to use fresh IPO proceeds primarily for store expansion, working capital and corporate purposes.

The key question for investors is whether SS Retail can convert its rapidly expanding store network into sustainable profits and cash flows while competing in a highly competitive smartphone and electronics market.
