Punjab Train Timetable Changed: 7 Trains Get New Schedule

Punjab Train Timetable Changed for 7 Trains: New Amritsar–Varanasi Express Triggers Schedule Revision, Full List

Rail passengers in Punjab, especially those travelling through Jalandhar and towards Amritsar, Jammu, Maharashtra and Bihar, should check their train schedules carefully. Northern Railway has revised the timings of seven trains after introducing a new express service between Chheharta near Amritsar and Varanasi’s Seer Govardhanpur.

The new service, numbered 14624/14623 Chheharta–Varanasi–Chheharta Seer Govardhanpur Express, required adjustments to the existing railway timetable. As a result, seven trains connected with Punjab have received revised arrival or departure timings at selected stations.

The changes are being implemented in phases, with some already effective from August 31 and September 1–2, while others will take effect in November.

Why Has Indian Railways Changed the Timetable?

The primary reason for the revision is the introduction of the new Chheharta–Varanasi Seer Govardhanpur Express.

Adding a new train to a busy rail corridor is not as simple as assigning it a train number and allowing it to run. Railway operations depend on track capacity, station availability, crossings, signalling and the schedules of other passenger and freight services.

When a new service is introduced, Indian Railways may adjust the timings of existing trains to create operational space and maintain coordination across the network.

In this case, the launch of Train Nos. 14624/14623 has led to timing revisions for seven existing services associated with the Punjab rail network.

Full List of 7 Trains With Revised Timings

Here is the complete list of trains affected by the latest schedule revision:

12357Kolkata Terminal–Amritsar Durgiana ExpressAmritsar arrival changed from 5:20 PM to 5:35 PM

The timing changes do not necessarily mean that the entire journey schedule of every train has been significantly altered. In several cases, the revision applies to specific stations.

Varanasi–Jammu Tawi Express Will Leave Earlier

One of the notable changes affects Train No. 12237, the Varanasi–Jammu Tawi Express.

The train's departure time from Varanasi has been moved forward by 15 minutes. Instead of leaving at 12:40 PM, the revised schedule shows a departure at 12:25 PM.

For passengers boarding from Varanasi, this is an important change. Travellers relying on an older timetable could arrive after the train has already departed.

Amritsar–Nanded and CSMT–Amritsar Express Timings Revised

Two trains will now arrive at Amritsar 35 minutes later than their earlier schedule.

Train No. 12422 Amritsar–Nanded Express is scheduled to reach Amritsar at 4:50 PM instead of 4:15 PM, with the revised timing effective from August 31.

Similarly, Train No. 11057 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus–Amritsar Express has also received a new Amritsar arrival time of 4:50 PM instead of 4:15 PM, effective from September 2.

These changes are particularly relevant for passengers arranging connecting transport, hotel check-ins or onward journeys from Amritsar.

Purnia Court–Amritsar Express Gets a New Arrival Time

Bihar passengers travelling towards Punjab should also note the revised schedule of Train No. 14617 Purnia Court–Amritsar Express.

From September 2, the train is scheduled to arrive in Amritsar at 5:05 PM, compared with its earlier arrival time of 4:55 PM.

The change is relatively small at 10 minutes, but railway passengers should not underestimate minor timetable adjustments, particularly when connecting transport or other train reservations are involved.

Shaheed Express Will See Multiple Timing Changes

The revised schedule for Train No. 14673 Jaynagar–Amritsar Shaheed Express is more extensive.

From November 2, the train's scheduled arrival in Amritsar will shift from 5:50 PM to 6:05 PM. Railway information also indicates timing adjustments at Lucknow and Barabanki.

This means passengers using intermediate stations should check the updated schedule for their specific boarding or destination station rather than relying only on the revised Amritsar arrival time.

Saryu Yamuna Express Schedule Also Changes

Train No. 14649 Jaynagar–Amritsar Saryu Yamuna Express will also have revised timings at multiple stations.

Its Amritsar arrival is scheduled to move from 5:50 PM to 6:05 PM from November 1. However, according to the reported railway schedule revision, the timing between Lucknow and Amritsar remains unchanged.

The key point for passengers is that a train can have revised timings at some stations while retaining its existing schedule at others. Therefore, checking only the origin or final destination timing may not always provide the complete picture.

Durgiana Express to Reach Amritsar 15 Minutes Later

Train No. 12357 Kolkata Terminal–Amritsar Durgiana Express is also included in the revised timetable.

From September 1, its scheduled arrival at Amritsar changes from 5:20 PM to 5:35 PM, a delay of 15 minutes compared with the earlier schedule.

For travellers arriving from Kolkata and other stations along the route, the revised final arrival time may affect onward travel planning in Amritsar.

What Passengers Should Watch Next

The biggest takeaway from this railway update is that the changes are being introduced on different dates. Some revisions have already taken effect, while others will begin in November.

Passengers travelling on the affected routes should check:

  • The revised timing for their specific boarding station

  • The date from which the new schedule becomes applicable

  • Whether connecting trains or transport plans need adjustment

  • Live train information closer to the journey date

The launch of the new 14624/14623 Chheharta–Varanasi Seer Govardhanpur Express appears to be the operational trigger behind the broader timetable adjustment. The move highlights how the addition of a new service can require changes across an existing railway network, particularly on busy routes.

Conclusion

Indian Railways has revised the timetable of seven trains associated with Punjab following the introduction of the new Chheharta–Varanasi Seer Govardhanpur Express. The changes affect services including the Varanasi–Jammu Tawi Express, Amritsar–Nanded Express, CSMT–Amritsar Express, Purnia Court–Amritsar Express, Shaheed Express, Saryu Yamuna Express and Durgiana Express.

While several changes involve only 10 to 35 minutes, passengers should take the revised schedule seriously, especially if they have connecting travel plans. The remaining changes scheduled for November will be another important date for travellers to monitor.
