MP DA Hike 2026: 7.5 Lakh Employees May Get 2% Increase Before Diwali, Salary Could Rise by Up to ₹4,000
Around 7.5 lakh government employees in Madhya Pradesh could receive a fresh Dearness Allowance (DA) increase before Diwali 2026. According to a September 26 report by Nai Dunia, the state government is considering a 2 percentage-point increase, which would take DA from the current 58% to 60% of basic pay. The report says an official announcement could come after October 15, potentially allowing the revised amount to be reflected in November salary.
The proposal is particularly significant because Madhya Pradesh employees have already been waiting for the next instalment after the previous 3% increase. However, the proposed 2% hike should not yet be treated as confirmed, since the state government has not issued a final order for this latest revision.
MP Employees Currently Get 58% DA
Madhya Pradesh increased DA for its government employees by 3 percentage points, from 55% to 58%, in 2026.
The increase was announced by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in March and subsequently formalised through the state's Finance Department. The revised 58% rate was linked to the April 2026 salary, payable in May.
The earlier increase also covered arrears from July 2025 to March 2026, with the state deciding to pay those arrears in six instalments between May and October 2026.
That means the proposed next increase would be a separate revision rather than simply another payment of the previous arrears.
DA Could Rise From 58% to 60%
According to the latest report, the state government is considering a 2% DA increase for employees.
If approved, the calculation would look like this:
Current DA: 58% of basic pay
Proposed increase: 2 percentage points
Potential new DA: 60% of basic pay
The report says the increase has been pending from January 2026 and that the additional financial burden on the state government could be around ₹82 crore per month. If arrears from January through October were paid together, the reported additional burden would be around ₹820 crore.
These figures are based on the reported proposal and should be distinguished from an officially sanctioned payment schedule.
How Much Could Salary Increase?
The impact of a DA revision depends directly on an employee's basic pay.
A 2-percentage-point increase means:
Additional monthly DA = Basic Pay × 2%
For example:
| Basic Pay | Current DA at 58% | Potential DA at 60% | Monthly Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹30,000 | ₹17,400 | ₹18,000 | ₹600 |
| ₹40,000 | ₹23,200 | ₹24,000 | ₹800 |
| ₹50,000 | ₹29,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹1,000 |
| ₹70,000 | ₹40,600 | ₹42,000 | ₹1,400 |
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹58,000 | ₹60,000 | ₹2,000 |
These calculations show only the additional DA. The actual change in take-home salary can differ because of deductions, taxes and other salary components.
The latest report estimates that some Class-I officers could see an increase of up to around ₹4,000 per month, depending on their applicable basic pay.
What About the Arrears?
Arrears could become an important part of the proposed revision.
If the government approves the 2% increase with effect from January 1, 2026, employees could become eligible for the difference between 58% and 60% for the applicable months.
For example, an employee with ₹50,000 basic pay would have an additional DA entitlement of:
₹50,000 × 2% = ₹1,000 per month
If such a revision were made effective retrospectively for 10 months, the simple DA difference would amount to ₹10,000, before considering the government's actual payment rules and applicable months.
However, the final effective date and arrear-payment mechanism will depend entirely on the government's official order.
This distinction is important because reports about a possible hike should not be confused with a confirmed arrear entitlement.
Why Is the Diwali Timing Important?
The reported timing could make the announcement particularly relevant for employees.
Nai Dunia reports that the government could announce the decision after October 15, with the revised amount potentially included in November salary.
If that schedule is ultimately approved, employees could receive a higher monthly DA around the festive period, while any applicable arrears could provide an additional payment.
But there is currently no official notification confirming that the increase will definitely be announced before Diwali or that it will be paid with November salary.
7.5 Lakh Employees Could Benefit
The proposed revision is significant because of its scale.
Around 7.5 lakh Madhya Pradesh government employees and officers were identified as beneficiaries of the previous DA increase.
The March 2026 decision also covered pensioners through the corresponding Dearness Relief (DR) framework. Reports at the time estimated around 4.5 lakh pensioners would benefit.
Whether the proposed 2% revision will apply to pensioners on the same terms will need to be confirmed separately through an official government decision.
Why the DA Gap With the Centre Matters
DA comparisons with central government employees are an important factor in the discussion.
Madhya Pradesh's 2026 increase to 58% brought state employees to the same DA rate then applicable to central government employees.
If the Centre's DA rate moves ahead while Madhya Pradesh remains at 58%, another gap could emerge. Conversely, moving the state rate to 60% would align it with the current central-government rate reported in recent coverage.
For employees, however, the important point is that DA rates are determined by the respective governments and should not be assumed to automatically change simply because another government revises its rate.
What Employees Should Watch Next
The next development is the official Madhya Pradesh Finance Department order.
Employees should look for confirmation of five details:
- Whether DA actually increases by 2 percentage points
- Whether the new rate becomes 60%
- The effective date of the increase
- Whether arrears are payable from January 2026
- When the revised amount will appear in salary
Until these details are officially notified, the 60% figure remains a reported proposal rather than a confirmed entitlement.
The earlier 2026 order demonstrates why the formal notification matters: the government specified the revised rate, effective period and arrear-payment schedule separately.
The Bottom Line
The latest report points to a possible 2% DA hike for Madhya Pradesh's 7.5 lakh government employees, which would take the allowance from 58% to 60% of basic pay. If approved, the increase would add ₹600 per month on a ₹30,000 basic salary, ₹1,000 on ₹50,000 basic pay and ₹2,000 on ₹1 lakh basic pay.
The potential Diwali timing could make the decision especially important for employees, but the final percentage, effective date, arrears and payment month are not yet officially confirmed. Employees should therefore wait for the Madhya Pradesh government's formal order before treating the reported 60% DA as final.
