Trichy Route Special Trains Extended Until October 2026

Two Weekly Special Trains via Trichy Get Service Extension: Check New Dates

Passengers travelling between Tambaram, Bodinayakkanur and Tirunelveli through the Tiruchirappalli route will get additional travel options in the coming weeks. The Railway administration has extended the services of two pairs of weekly special trains operating via Trichy, giving passengers more time to use these services beyond their previously announced schedules.

The extended services cover the Tambaram–Bodinayakkanur and Tambaram–Tirunelveli special trains. The move is expected to provide continued capacity on important Tamil Nadu routes connecting Chennai's suburban region with southern districts.

Tambaram–Bodinayakkanur Weekly Special Train Extended

The Tambaram–Bodinayakkanur Weekly Special Train, numbered 06059, operates on Saturdays, while the return service, 06060, runs from Bodinayakkanur to Tambaram on Sundays.

The services had earlier been scheduled to operate until late September. According to the latest extension announcement, the schedule has now been pushed further:

  • Train No. 06059, Tambaram–Bodinayakkanur: Extended until October 24, 2026

  • Train No. 06060, Bodinayakkanur–Tambaram: Extended until October 25, 2026

The train services operate via the Tiruchirappalli region, making them relevant for passengers travelling across central and southern parts of Tamil Nadu.

Tambaram–Tirunelveli Special Train Also Gets More Services

The second extension involves the weekly special services between Tambaram and Tirunelveli.

The Tirunelveli–Tambaram Weekly Special, Train No. 06070, had previously been announced only until September 24. The Tambaram–Tirunelveli Weekly Special, Train No. 06069, was earlier scheduled until September 25.

Both services will now continue into late October:

  • Train No. 06070, Tirunelveli–Tambaram: Extended until October 29, 2026

  • Train No. 06069, Tambaram–Tirunelveli: Extended until October 30, 2026

This extension provides an additional weekly travel option for passengers moving between the Chennai region and Tirunelveli through the Trichy corridor.

Why the Extension Matters for Passengers

Special train extensions are generally introduced when railway authorities see continued demand for additional capacity or need to provide more travel options on busy routes.

For passengers, the announcement is particularly useful because a special service can fill the gap when regular trains have high demand. The Tambaram–Bodinayakkanur route connects travellers with the Theni region, while the Tambaram–Tirunelveli service serves passengers travelling towards one of southern Tamil Nadu's major cities.

The extension also means that passengers planning journeys in October now have additional weekly services available beyond the earlier September cut-off dates.

For travellers from or passing through the Trichy region, these trains can provide another option depending on the final schedule, station stops and seat availability.

A Wider Push for Additional Rail Capacity

The latest announcement comes amid a broader effort to continue or extend special train services on several southern routes. Southern Railway has recently announced extensions for multiple special services connecting Chennai and Tambaram with destinations across Tamil Nadu and other parts of southern India.

Railway authorities often use special trains to manage periods of higher passenger demand, including weekends, holidays, festivals and other high-traffic travel periods.

However, passengers should note that an extension of a special train service does not necessarily mean the service has been converted into a permanent regular train. The announced operation remains subject to the specific dates and schedules issued by the railway authorities.

What Passengers Should Check Before Booking

Passengers planning to use Train Nos. 06059, 06060, 06069 or 06070 should verify the latest information before travelling.

Important details to check include:

1. Exact Date of Operation

These are weekly special services, so the train may not operate every day. Travellers should confirm that their intended travel date falls within the announced operating schedule.

2. Station Stops

Passengers should check the complete route and halt list, especially if they plan to board or exit at intermediate stations along the Trichy corridor.

3. Seat Availability

An extension does not guarantee immediate ticket availability. Demand can vary depending on the date and destination, so checking availability early may help passengers secure suitable accommodation.

4. Latest Railway Updates

Train schedules can occasionally be affected by operational requirements, engineering works or other railway-related changes. Passengers should therefore verify the latest status through official Indian Railways booking and enquiry platforms before starting their journey.

What the New Extension Means

The key takeaway is straightforward: two important weekly special train pairs operating through the Trichy route will continue beyond their previously announced September end dates.

The Tambaram–Bodinayakkanur service will now operate until October 24 and October 25, depending on direction, while the Tambaram–Tirunelveli services will continue until October 29 and October 30, 2026.

For passengers planning travel between Tambaram, Trichy and southern Tamil Nadu during October, the extension adds more weekly rail connectivity and potentially provides an alternative when regular services are heavily booked.

As always, travellers should check the latest train timings, boarding points and ticket availability before finalising their journey.
