India’s LHB Coaches for Bangladesh: What Has Changed in the 19-Coach Rake?
India has rolled out a new batch of LHB coaches for Bangladesh Railway, but this is not simply another export of standard Indian Railways coaches. The first rake of 19 broad-gauge coaches manufactured at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, has been custom-designed around Bangladesh Railway’s operational requirements, with several notable changes to safety, passenger comfort and coach design.
The rake, rolled out on August 12, 2026, contains three AC sleeper coaches, three AC chair coaches, 11 non-AC chair coaches and two power cars. The project is part of a larger 200-coach export contract won by RITES from Bangladesh Railway.

What Is Special About These LHB Coaches?

The coaches are being manufactured at RCF Kapurthala.
This creates a three-part chain: Bangladesh Railway is the customer, RITES is handling the international contract and project execution, while an Indian Railways production unit is manufacturing the coaches.
Why This Matters for RITES Investors
For stock-market investors, RITES is the most directly connected listed company.
The Bangladesh contract strengthens RITES' international railway business and adds a sizeable rolling-stock project to its order pipeline. RITES has previously supplied 120 broad-gauge LHB passenger coaches to Bangladesh, along with locomotives, so the latest order builds on an established relationship.
However, investors should keep one distinction in mind: ₹915 crore is the contract value, not RITES' profit.
The eventual financial benefit will depend on execution costs, revenue recognition, margins, delivery schedules and warranty obligations. Therefore, the more useful indicators to monitor are project progress, profitability and whether the company wins additional overseas railway contracts.
