Stocks in News Today: Wipro, Lenskart, Tata Motors PV, Ather Energy and Kotak Bank in Focus
Several stocks are likely to remain in focus on Friday, August 28, 2026, after important corporate developments involving Wipro, Lenskart Solutions, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Ather Energy and Kotak Mahindra Bank. The updates range from a major AI partnership and a large investor stake sale to a new passenger-vehicle brand identity, an increase in Hero MotoCorp’s stake in Ather and a senior management change at Kotak’s investment arm.
The developments come after a weak session for Indian equities. On Thursday, the Sensex declined 539.35 points, while the Nifty 50 fell 116.91 points to close at 24,090.85. With global cues remaining mixed, company-specific news could have a greater influence on individual stocks during Friday’s trading session.
Here are the key stocks investors should watch.
Wipro: Google Cloud Partnership Expands Around AI
Wipro is in focus after announcing an expanded partnership with Google Cloud aimed at accelerating enterprise adoption of Gemini Enterprise and agentic artificial intelligence.
Under the expanded arrangement, Wipro said it will deploy Gemini Enterprise internally and equip more than 10,000 AI-certified specialists, including 1,500 Forward Deployed Engineers, with advanced AI capabilities. The company is also introducing its LIFT framework to help enterprises operationalise AI and agentic AI at scale.
The development is significant for Wipro because enterprise AI adoption is becoming an increasingly important part of the global IT-services market.
For investors, the key question is whether such partnerships eventually translate into larger AI-related contracts, higher productivity and stronger revenue growth. A partnership announcement by itself does not guarantee an immediate financial impact, so investors will need to watch future deal wins, margins and management commentary.
Wipro's US-listed ADRs also rose on Thursday following the announcement, according to market reports.
Lenskart: ₹1,313 Crore Stake Sale in Focus
Lenskart Solutions is likely to attract significant attention after existing investor Alpha Wave Ventures II moved to sell up to 20.8 million shares, representing roughly 1.2% of the company's outstanding equity.
The proposed transaction has a floor price of ₹630 per share, a discount to Lenskart's August 27 NSE closing price of ₹640.60. The deal could be worth approximately ₹1,313 crore. Importantly, this is a secondary sale, meaning Lenskart itself will not receive the proceeds.
For traders, the immediate issue is supply. A large block sale at a discount can create short-term pressure because investors may compare the market price with the transaction's floor price.
However, the stake sale should not automatically be interpreted as a deterioration in Lenskart's underlying business. The seller is an existing investor monetising its holding rather than the company raising fresh capital.
Lenskart's recent operating performance has also been strong. The company reported Q1 FY27 revenue of ₹2,714 crore, up from ₹1,894 crore a year earlier, while profit after tax rose sharply from the year-ago period.
That makes the stock particularly interesting: investors will have to weigh strong business growth against the near-term impact of an institutional shareholder selling shares.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles: New Tata.Cars Identity
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) is another stock to watch after Tata Motors unveiled Tata.Cars, a new customer-facing brand identity for its passenger-vehicle business.
The company said Tata.Cars will serve as the primary customer-facing expression, while Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles will continue as the legal entity.
The move is more about branding and customer positioning than an immediate change to the company's corporate structure.
For Tata Motors' passenger-vehicle business, brand perception is becoming increasingly important as competition intensifies across SUVs, electric vehicles and other passenger-car segments.
Investors should therefore look beyond the branding announcement itself and focus on vehicle launches, market share, EV volumes, margins and overall passenger-vehicle profitability.
The stock had closed at ₹316 on August 27, according to Economic Times market data.
Ather Energy: Hero MotoCorp Raises Stake
Ather Energy is in focus following a major investment decision by Hero MotoCorp.
Hero MotoCorp has approved the purchase of additional equity shares in Ather Energy. Following the transaction, Hero's shareholding in Ather is expected to rise to up to 32.8% on a fully diluted basis, strengthening its position as Ather's largest shareholder.
The move is strategically important for India's electric two-wheeler industry.
Hero MotoCorp already has a significant relationship with Ather, and increasing its ownership indicates a deeper commitment to the electric mobility business. Reuters reported that the additional investment could amount to ₹17.58 billion, or about $184 million.
For investors watching Hero MotoCorp, the transaction provides greater exposure to Ather's future growth. At the same time, the electric two-wheeler market remains highly competitive, with established manufacturers and newer EV companies competing on pricing, technology, range and distribution.
The key issue going forward will be whether Ather can convert its growing market presence into sustainable profitability.
Kotak Mahindra Bank: CFO Change at Investment Arm
Kotak Mahindra Bank is also on the radar following a senior management change at its subsidiary, Kotak Mahindra Investments.
Siddarth Gandotra has resigned as Chief Financial Officer of Kotak Mahindra Investments, with his resignation effective at the close of business on August 31, 2026. The board has approved the appointment of Hiren Vora as CFO from September 1.
A CFO transition is generally worth monitoring because the role is closely connected with financial reporting, controls, capital allocation and management oversight.
However, the announcement by itself does not indicate a change in Kotak Mahindra Bank's broader business strategy. Investors will likely look for further disclosures regarding the transition and any comments from management.
For the bank's stock, broader factors such as loan growth, asset quality, net interest margins, deposits and credit costs remain much more important to long-term earnings.
Why These Stocks Matter Today
The five companies represent very different parts of the Indian market.
| Stock | Key Development | What Investors Should Watch |
|---|---|---|
| Wipro | Expanded Google Cloud AI partnership | AI deal wins, productivity and margins |
| Lenskart | ₹1,313 crore secondary stake sale | Block-deal impact and demand |
| Tata Motors PV | Tata.Cars brand identity | Passenger-vehicle sales and market share |
| Ather Energy | Hero raising stake to up to 32.8% | EV growth and profitability |
| Kotak Mahindra Bank | CFO change at Kotak Mahindra Investments | Management transition and subsidiary performance |
The common thread is that each announcement could affect investor sentiment, but not all developments have the same financial significance.
The Lenskart transaction, for example, can have an immediate impact because it introduces a sizeable block of shares into the market. Wipro's AI partnership is more strategic and could take time to influence financial results. Tata.Cars is primarily a branding initiative, while Hero's Ather investment has longer-term implications for EV exposure.
What Investors Should Watch Next
Investors should avoid treating every corporate announcement as an automatic trading signal.
For Wipro, future AI contract wins and revenue conversion will matter more than the partnership headline.
For Lenskart, the key near-term factor is how the market absorbs the secondary share sale. Investors should also track whether the company's strong operating growth continues.
For Tata Motors PV, vehicle volumes, new launches, EV adoption and profitability remain the core business indicators.
For Ather, Hero MotoCorp's increased ownership strengthens the strategic relationship, but long-term value will depend on Ather's ability to scale while improving economics.
For Kotak Mahindra Bank, the CFO transition should be viewed alongside the broader performance of the banking and financial-services business.
Investor Takeaway
Friday's stocks in news list highlights how corporate developments can create opportunities and risks even when the broader market is struggling to find direction.
Wipro's AI partnership strengthens its positioning in enterprise artificial intelligence, Lenskart faces a sizeable secondary stake sale, Tata Motors is refreshing its passenger-vehicle brand identity, Hero MotoCorp is increasing its exposure to Ather, and Kotak Mahindra Investments is undergoing a CFO transition.
The important distinction for investors is between short-term trading impact and long-term business fundamentals. A block deal can move a stock for a day, while an AI partnership or EV investment may take several quarters to show up in financial performance.
Investors should therefore track subsequent filings, operating numbers, management commentary and price-volume action before drawing conclusions.
