Pune Metro Line 3 Nears Launch: 12-Station Hinjewadi-Balewadi Stretch May Open in September
Pune Metro Line 3 is moving closer to passenger operations, with the first 12-station stretch between Maan in Hinjewadi and the R.K. Laxman Museum area in Balewadi ready for launch. Pune Metro Line 3: What Is Ready?
The first phase of Metro Line 3 covers approximately 13 km and 12 stations, running from Maan in Hinjewadi to the R.K. Laxman Museum station in Balewadi. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) granted provisional authorisation for passenger operations on this section on July 23, according to reports.
The operational stretch is part of the much larger Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar corridor.
PMRDA's official project information puts the total corridor length at 23.203 km with 23 stations. The project has an approved cost of about ₹8,313 crore and is being implemented under a public-private partnership model.
The remaining stations towards Shivajinagar are still being prepared for safety approval and operationalisation.
As of late August, authorities were working on the remaining four stations — Sakalnagar, University, RBI and District Court — with CMRS clearance expected after the required information is submitted for inspection.

PMRDA says the corridor is being developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer model. Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd has been established as the special purpose vehicle for the project, while the concession has been awarded to a joint venture involving TRIL Urban Transport Pvt Ltd and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.
For investors and infrastructure watchers, the project therefore provides an important example of private participation in large urban transport infrastructure.
PMRDA's latest project information indicates that physical progress had reached about 94.58%, while financial progress stood at 97.40% in its reported January 2026 figures.

The line will support several modern ticketing options, including National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), app-based ticketing, WhatsApp QR tickets, ticket vending machines and conventional counters.
