Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro: Five IT Firms Plan Dedicated Foot Overbridges to Metro Stations
The upcoming Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro Line 3 is set to get another last-mile connectivity boost, with authorities approaching five major IT companies in Hinjawadi to develop dedicated foot overbridges (FOBs) linking their campuses directly with nearby Metro stations.
The proposal comes ahead of the expected partial opening of the corridor and is aimed at solving one of Hinjawadi's most persistent problems: getting thousands of employees safely from office campuses to public transport without having to cross heavily congested roads.
The five campuses covered by the proposal together employ nearly 90,000 people, according to officials. Two companies have already agreed to undertake the projects and received the required approvals, while discussions are continuing with three others.
What Is the Plan for Hinjawadi Metro Foot Overbridges?
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) have approached five large companies operating in Hinjawadi IT Park.
Under the proposed arrangement, the private companies will finance and execute construction of the dedicated foot overbridges, while MIDC will provide the land required for bridge support structures.
The first two approved projects involve campuses in Hinjawadi Phase 2 and are expected to provide direct pedestrian access to the MIDC Circle, Hinjawadi Circle 1 and Hinjawadi Circle 2 Metro stations.
The two campuses involved have a combined workforce of about 55,000 employees, making the potential impact on daily commuting significant.
Authorities have also approached three more companies. Their proposed connections would serve Metro stations around Maan, Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Hinjawadi and Hinjawadi Circle 1. These three campuses collectively employ another roughly 32,000 people.
